The Korea U-20 National Team, led by head coach Kim Eun-joong, defeated Ecuador to advance to the quarterfinals of the U-20 World Cup.
The team won 3-2 in the round of 16 match at the Santiago del Estero Stadium in Argentina on Feb. 2 (KST).
Lee Young-joon (Gimcheon) scored in the 11th minute and Bae Joon-ho (Daejeon) in the 19th minute, but the Koreans conceded a penalty in the 36th minute. With the win, the Korean National Team advanced to the quarterfinals for the second consecutive tournament, following the 2019 edition in Poland.
South Korea has reached the quarterfinals of the U-20 World Cup six times in its history (1983-1991-2009-2013-2019-2023). Their best result was a runner-up finish at the 2019 tournament.
