Organizing committee formation continues to fall apart…’stuck in limbo’ Chungcheongbuk-do U-tournament

The 2027 Summer World University Games, co-bid by the four Chungcheong Province cities last November, has been off to a rocky start.

A controversy erupted over the composition of the organizing committee, and the secretary-general, who was publicly selected amid friction between the four cities and the Korean Sports Federation, was in danger of being removed from the organizing committee.

The Ministry of Culture has stepped in to put the brakes on.

The second founding meeting was scheduled to be held to form the organizing committee for the Chungcheongbuk-do Summer World University Games.

However, the Chungcheongbuk-do Joint Bid Committee suddenly informed the attendees that the meeting was canceled.

The reason was that they had a disagreement with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism just before the meeting.

In an unusual move, the Chungcheongbuk-do bid committee decided to have a full-time vice chairman separate from the secretary general and appointed Lee Jang-woo, a former campaign chairman of Daejeon Mayor Lee Jang-woo’s election campaign.

The appointment sparked controversy, with the Korean Sports Federation claiming that the roles of the two positions overlapped and that there was no prior consultation.먹튀검증

Finally, on the 19th, the organization held its second founding meeting and tried to change its bylaws to remove the secretary-general and have a full-time vice chairman, but this time, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism put the brakes on.

These discussions were held under the leadership of Vice Minister Choi Jung-man, and when the Secretary General, who lost his job, threatened legal action, Minister of Culture Park Bo-gyun reportedly asked the committee to reconsider.

While the MOC is considering maintaining the system of a secretary general and two full-time vice presidents, the deadline set by the International University Sports Federation to establish an organizing committee has already passed, and even an extension is only a little over a week away.

There is growing criticism that the relevant organizations, including the four Chungcheong Province cities, have been mired in controversy and overreach, wasting the preparation period and causing international embarrassment.
