Lee Sohee, Paik Hana reach Malaysia Masters quarterfinals…Kim So-young, Gong Hee-yong ‘shock exit’

The pair of Lee So-hee (Incheon International Airport) and Baek Hana (MG Saemaul Bank) have reached the quarterfinals of the Women’s Doubles at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Malaysia Masters.

The pair defeated Japan’s RIN Iwanaga and KIE Naganishi 2-0 (21-14 21-6) in the round of 16 of the BWF World Tour Super 500 Series Malaysia Masters Women’s Doubles on Friday in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

In the quarterfinals, Lee and Paik will face Japan’s top-seeded women’s doubles team of Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida.

Jung Na-eun (Hwasun County Office)-Kim Hye-jung (Samsung Life) also reached the quarterfinals after defeating Japan’s Rui Hirokami and Yuna Kato 2-1 (21-15 9-21 21-7) in the round of 16.안전놀이터

Jung and Kim will face Indonesia’s Afriyani Rahayu and Citi Padia Silva Ramaranti for a spot in the quarterfinals.

Defending champions Kim So-young (Incheon International Airport) and Gong Hee-yong (Jeonbuk Bank) fell 1-2 (16-21 21-15 19-21) to Chinese Taipei’s Hsiu Ya-ching and Lin Wan-ching in the round of 16.

Shin Seung Chan (Incheon International Airport) and Lee Yoo Rim (Samsung Life Insurance) also failed to advance to the quarterfinals after falling 0-2 (16-21 9-21) to Japan’s Yuki Fukushima and Sayaka Hirota.

Kang Min-hyuk (Samsung Life) and Seo Seung-jae (Armed Forces Athletic Corps), who defeated the world No. 1 pair of Fazar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Adianto (both of Indonesia) in the first round of the men’s doubles, advanced to the quarterfinals with a 2-0 (21-15 21-17) victory over Akira Koga and Taichi Saito of Japan in the round of 16.

Choi Sol-gyu (Armed Forces Athletic Corps)-Kim Won-ho (Samsung Life) fell 0-2 (19-21 14-21) to Malaysia’s Aaron Chia-Soh Woo-yin in the Round of 16.

In the mixed doubles round of 16, Seo Seung-jae and Chae Yoo-jung (Incheon International Airport) advanced to the quarterfinals with a 2-0 (21-14 21-11) victory over Yang Po-hsuan and Hu Ling-fang of Chinese Taipei. Seo and Chae will face Indonesia’s Rinoff Rivaldi and Pita Haningtias Mentari for a spot in the quarterfinals.

Kim Won-ho and Jung Na-eun fell to Japan’s Kyohei Yamashita and Naru Shinoya 1-2 (21-17 21-23 22-24) in the quarterfinals.

In the women’s singles, Kim Ga-eun (Samsung Life) and Shim Yoo-jin (Incheon International Airport) both fell in the round of 16.
