Professional football’s K League 1 continued its box office boom, surpassing 1 million spectators for the minimum number of games since the introduction of the relegation system.
A total of 25,835 spectators attended the match between Daejeon Hana Citizens and Incheon United at Daejeon World Cup Stadium on the 4th (13,779) and the match between Daegu FC and FC Seoul at DGB Daegu Bank Park in Daegu (12,56).
This brings the total attendance for the K League 1 to 1,049,969 after 96 games, having attracted 979,134 in the 94 games played the previous day.
This is the first time since the 2013 season, when the promotion system was introduced, that the league has reached 1 million spectators in a minimum of 96 games.
The previous record was 108 games in the 2013 season.스포츠토토
The crowd mobilisation of the K League 1 this year is even more remarkable when looking at records since 2018, when only paying spectators were counted.
It took 185 games in 2018, 123 games in 2019, and 215 games in 2022 to reach 1 million spectators, but this year’s milestone was reached twice as fast as in previous years.
In 2020 and 2021, we didn’t reach the one million mark due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
K League 1, which started the season on a high after reaching the round of 16 at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, is enjoying a boom in attendance thanks to the promotion of Daejeon Hana Citizens and the high-flying success of FC Seoul, a popular club in the Seoul metropolitan area.
